Independence Day

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”
Erma Bombeck

The corn may not be quite knee-high this Fourth of July, but the gardens are still progressing nicely…

Tomatoes coming on! They aren’t diseased – the white stuff is cotton fluff from the cottonwoods.

Bees a’buzzin’.

The first harvest of the second planting of peas. Multi-colored buds are beginning to emerge now, so the sweet peas will bloom soon after the edible peas are finished.

Babies on the drainpipe.

K laughed at my edible arrangement of onion scapes, bolted cilantro and arugula. Won’t he be surprised when they show up on his plate, grilled with fish.

And then there’s Cheesecat, always looking for belly scritchin’s.
