Simple Pleasures

I don't know about you, but at Hearth Cricket sometimes life seems to get a little out of control. There's so much to do and so little time. Multiple demands claim our attention. People and obligations pull at us. Suddenly everything is urgent, and the ability to prioritize falls by the way.

At least that's how it feels every once in a while. If it goes on for too long, productivity decreases and discontent lurks on the horizon.

That's when it's a good idea to come back to the basics. To simple pleasures. To paying attention to what's here and now, because that's all there ever really is. It's a way to ground ourselves again, and to regain perspective.

Today I've been paying attention to:

--Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

--A quick omelette

--An orange cat purring on my lap (cliche, but true)

--Tea with lemon

--A game of gin rummy

--Fresh herbs

--A neatly made bed

--The smell of bacon cooking

--A friendly smile at the post office

--A perfect square of dark chocolate (with orange peel in it...)

--Warm sunshine on my skin

--The sound of pen on paper

And at some point, I hope,

--An afternoon nap

  1. Those all sound wonderful and the way my day's been going, a fantasy. But you're right, at some point we have to stop and enjoy a few simple pleasures. Usually when I sit down at the computer, I have at least one and sometimes two cats sleeping in my lap. That, as crazy as it sounds, can be relaxing.
